Morante de la Puebla, Roca Rey, Diego Ventura and several of the sport’s leading names headline a season ticket package that will make El Bibio one of the major bullfighting venues of the summer.

Gijón backs a top-class Begoña Fair for 2026

The official line-up for the 2026 Begoña Fair at El Bibio Bullring has now been unveiled. One of the most important bullfighting events in northern Spain, the festival will take place from 13 to 17 August and will feature three bullfights, a rejoneo event (bullfighting on horseback) and a picador-supported novice bullfight.

The presentation was held at the historic Asturian arena and brought together local authorities, bullfighting enthusiasts and leading figures from the world of tauromachy. The event was hosted by journalist José Ribagorda and matador Pedro Gutiérrez Moya “Niño de la Capea”, while Gijón’s Mayor, Carmen Moriyón, led the municipal representation alongside several members of the city council.

The organisers have assembled a highly attractive programme, bringing together some of the most influential names in modern bullfighting over the course of just five days. Among them are Morante de la Puebla, Andrés Roca Rey and star rejoneador Diego Ventura, three of the sport’s most popular and influential performers.

During the presentation, promoter Carlos Zúñiga highlighted the challenge of bringing together figures of this calibre in a single festival, stressing the significant effort required to ensure that Gijón remains one of Spain’s leading bullfighting venues.

He also acknowledged the support received from local institutions in recent years and paid tribute to María del Pilar González del Valle, Marchioness of La Vega de Anzo, a respected supporter of bullfighting who was closely linked to El Bibio and passed away in 2025.

A tribute in the official fair artwork

The official artwork for the 2026 Begoña Fair includes a heartfelt tribute to the Marchioness of La Vega de Anzo. The poster was created by Seville-based artist José Tomás Pérez Indiano, who was commissioned to produce the image representing this year’s festival.

The composition features several iconic landmarks associated with Gijón, including the El Bibio arena and the Torres Lighthouse, alongside the figure of the late bullfighting enthusiast, creating a powerful image rich in symbolism and local identity.

The structure of this season ticket package underlines the Asturian venue’s commitment to maintaining a top-level programme. The presence of the sport’s leading stars, alongside emerging talents and a highly anticipated rejoneo event, once again places the Begoña Fair among the essential dates of the summer bullfighting season.

Combining tradition, established stars and opportunities for the next generation, El Bibio is set to become one of the focal points of the 2026 bullfighting calendar throughout August.
